Certain new rules approved by the World Taekwondo Federation is designed to have more objective scoring system and will spur more excitement in every matches in the sport.
The new rules includes: the elimination of the 12 point ceiling and 7 point margin to automatically stop a bout, the disqualification of a fighter woth an accumulation of four-point violations, the awarding of 3 points for a kick to the face regardless of impact,and scoring two points for a turning kick to the body and the usage of video replay to settle any controversy that sprouts out in the Games.

The Philippine Sportswriters Association of the Philippines selected Manny Pacquiao as a a hands down winner choice as Athlete of the Decade. The Reigning pound-for-pound boxer in the world, Pacquiao was named as PSA Athlete of the Year five times this decade, having won the coveted plum from 2002 to 2004, in 2006 and 2008. Last year Pacquiao was enshrined to the Hall of Fame in the same award giving body in the Philippines.

The living legend in cycling Lance Armstrong is setting his sight on nailing his 8th Tour De France victory this year. The strong and mighty Armstrong who already collected a world record seven titles in this prestigious event is also seeing action in the Tour Down Under which is slated this January 17 to 24 in Australia this year. Armstrong is now training in Hawaii as he said in an interview with AP, “There will be definitely more emphasis on the race from me, but that will probably consistent throughout the year.” An indication that Armstrong is in an all out effort to perform well in France once again. Spain clinched its third ever Hopman Cup at the expense of Great Britain. The feisty and fiery tandem of Tommy Robredo and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez turned back the duo of Andy Murray and Laura Robson 7-5 (6), 7-5 in the deciding set in mixed doubles to wrap up the the championship trophy and bragging rights of having the best man-woman team in the world. Robson provided Britain an early lead by taking the women’s single with a victory over Martinez Sanchez 6-1, 7-6. Robredo tied the score 1-1 by claiming his fourth straight singles match of the event by subduing Murray, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the men’s singles, to force a mixed doubles rubber-match. The game Spanish tandem, combined to rip through Robson’s serve in the first game. Spain was up a break in the first set two times, but the gritty Britain side fought back twice in the next games.
