Sports continue to fascinates us and even leave us in awe as if we are in state of trance. Superb performance and tricks dished out by remarkable athletes will simply throw us right off from our seats, and keep us guessing how the things before our very eyes transpired.
Here are some things that are considered rare in sports.
- Golf – Hole in one, or an eagle.
- Basketball – Four point play, buzzer beating basket that serve as the winning basket in the end, quadruple double, a dunk with very high level of difficulty of doing it, 100+ point, 20+ assists or rebounds, 10+ blocks, or 7+ steals performance in one game.
- Baseball – Multiple home runs (three or more) and hits (9) in a game, and a grand slam or two in a single inning.
- Gymnastics – Rare triple and perfect score of 10.
- Diving – In the last staging of the Olympics in Beijing, China, the highest degree of difficulty that is utilized is 3.8, which is a reverse 2 and a half somersaults with 2 and a half twists in pike on both the three and ten meter platform.
- Boxing – Word champion in at least three weight divisions or a knock out win under one minute in the first round.
- Athletics – Running under 10 seconds in the 100 meter dash.
- Figure skating – Rare double.
- Billiards – Shooting the nine ball in just first try.
- Bowling – Perfect score of 300 in 10 frames.

An American is set to hoist the Augusta Masters trophy, no not the
beleaguered and controversial Tiger Woods, but his compatriot Phil Mickelson who fashioned out an emotional and hard fought win.
Mickelson submitted a remarkable 5-under pat 67 to cap his performance on 16-under 272, edging out second placer Lee Westwood by just three strokes.
The sweet victory was indeed dramatic since Mickelson’s wife Amy is fighting her breast cancer for almost a year now.
“It has been an emotional year,” quipped Mickelson, and added, “I’m very proud of the fight and struggle she has been through. It has been very difficult and very emotional. To be on the other end and feel the jubilation is incredible.”
Woods who was in a hiatus for several months after his wife exposed him of his extra-marital affairs with twelve women finished tied for fourth with South Korean K.J. Choi on 277 after firing a final round 3-under par 69. The two golfers was just a stroke behind third placer Anthony Kim of US.
With this stirring triumph Mickelson increase his Masters title to three and his major titles to four. Mickelson climbed to a share of fourth on the All-Time Masters win list, four short of legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus and just one away of Woods and Arnold Palmer.
This year’s edition of the Augusta will go down as one of the most emotional championships, as Mickelson was seen embracing his beloved wife.

Regarded to be one of the greatest golfers all time if not the best, Tiger Woods suffered another major setback, this time losing a corporate sponsor in Gatorade. The sports drink maker which is a subsidiary of Pepsi Cola called its marketing deals with Woods quits, and became the newest member of the list of sponsors that abandoned the golf superstar that was in a sex fiasco a month ago. Jennifer Schmit, Gatorade’s spokeswoman said, “We no longer see a role for Tiger in our marketing efforts and have ended our relationship… We wish him all the best.” His image deteriotated and hit a snag since a scandal involving him surface last November 27, 2009. His stature as a premier athlete was terribly hurt even as woman came out in the open saying they have had an affair with Woods. The list of sponsors that relinquished their ties with Woods includes Accenture and AT&T. Procter and Gamble’s Gillette and Tag Heuer have maintained their dealings with Woods but he is not shown in their recent advertisements.
