Pacquiao vs Clottey, not Pacquiao vs Mayweather

The megafight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. was averted no thanks to the bogged down negotiations between the two camp. The acerbic Mayweather Jr. was throwing malicious slugs on Pacquiao for the past several weeks, accusing the planet’s hottest boxer of steroid use, which is baseless and simply was an act of avoiding Pacquiao to keep his record clean and intact according to boxing experts and fans. With the dream fight with Mayweather seemed not happening or perhaps never, Pacquiao’s  camp is venturing on divulging their time and concentration to other prospects. And the list of very lucky of would be opponent for Pacquiao which stands to earn much was long, and the culled short list inlcludes Yuri Foreman, Juan Manuel Marquez, Edwin Valerio, Paulie Malignaggi and Joshua Clottey. The Pacquiao camp has chosen Clottey as the next opponent, wherein the expected fight will surely generate another interest and attention from millions of fans all over the world.

Pacquiao stakes his WBO welterweight Champion belt against Clottey in March 13 this year. Clottey which totes a 35-3 record with 20 knockouts was never decked in the canvass throughout his career but only lose a close controversial decision to Cotto last year. Cotto was the recent victim of Pacquiao.

Roach’s battle plan against Clottey includes putting him away inside the ring, letting Pacquiao to box in and out, play side to side footwork and be tactical because Clottey packs a big punch and sports a granite chin. Alas, there will be no catch up weight between the two warriors. Both pugilists will slug it out over the 145 lbs weight.

Pacquiao’s chief trainer, who was known to have given accurate fight predictions over knock out victories over David Diaz, Oscar Dela Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto, said, “I think we’re going to get him (Clottey in 12 easily, but he’s definitely a tough guy to knockout,” he added, “That’s our goal to knock him out and be the first one to do that.
