Spain Wins World Cup

The Spanish Team was triumphant in edging out the Netherlands in a thrilling 1-0 victory behind a goal by an unlikely hero Carles Puyol. The Spain team thus barged into the championship winners of the World Cup such as Brazil, Italy, Germany, France, Argentina, Uruguay, and England.
The team relied on the solid game of David Villa and Xavi and the goalkeeping prowess of Isker Casillas in the early stages of the tournament.

Here are the highlights of the 2010 Soccer World Cup
The 2010 edition of the Soccer World Cup saw a lot of resounding upsets and departure of some of the favored teams throughout the tournament. France, Italy and Serbia were booted out as early as the qualifying stages. Portugal and England were eliminated in the second round by Spain and Germany. Argentina and top-seeded Brazil fell ambush to the Netherlands and Germany. Alas, in the semifinals, previous winners of the World Cup were formally wiped out as Uruguay bowed to giant killer the Netherlands and Spain wielding the upset axe against Germany.

The Seer from Oberhausen, which is actually an octopus named Paul, and hmmm not a human so as to speak gained global prominence by predicting accurately the winner between Germany and Spain in the semifinals. The poor octopus was the center of ire of the exasperated and angered German soccer fans and aficionados. The Germans wanted the sea creature be placed in a tank that contains sharks rofl. The octopus went on to predict the wins of Germany on its battle for third against the 1930 and 1950 champions Uruguay and the title conquest of Spain in the World Cup over shocked the Netherlands. The octopus thus raised its success rate to 12 correct predictions against one foiled prediction.

The Birth of a New Basketball Star in the NBA: Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics

June 20, 2010

Although the Boston Celtics bowed down to the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers 3-4, in the 2010 NBA Finals, but still they are lucky since they just polished a diamond in the rough in spitfirish and all-around player Rajon Rondo.

Rondo emerged as this year’s surprise package as he gets out from his shell to help carry the Celtics to the NBA Finals. Rondo is fast becoming a feared point guard on the league. Still very young at 24 years old, the former University of Kentucky varsity, Rondo shows great promises in the future for the Celtics.

Rondo smothered Hall of Famer and legendary Bob Cousy’s total assists in a season and his stars shines even further as he was selected for his first appearance in the NBA All-Star game held in Dallas, Texas as a reserve this year.

Celtics General Manager Danny Ainge was brilliant when he signed the Celtics fiery point guard to a lofty $55 million deal last November 2009. Ainge could’ve seen some greatness in Rondo, since his gamble paid off and the team started reaping the fruits of retaining the consummate point guard who is capable of doing a lot of things on the court.

Rondo is not only a great passer as he can pluck down rebounds and scores. He registered a triple double effort against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Western Conference semi-finals, as he scored 29 points, pulled down 18 points and handed out 13 assists, becoming only the third player aside from Wilt Chamberlain and Oscar Robertson to do so in a single playoff game.

The Boston Celtics Logo

He again went berserk against the Lakers on their Game 2 encounter in their NBA Finals series as he amassed 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

In the penultimate Game 7 of their series with the Los Angeles, Rondo came up just two rebounds short of posting his third triple double in the post season. Rondo garnered 14 points, dished out 10 assists and grabbed 8 rebounds.

With the surprising performance Rondo continues to give his team he is now considered to be at par best with the best point guards on the league such as Chris Paul of New Orleans Hornets, Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls and Deron Williams of the Utah Jazz. With Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce getting older, Rondo is expected to carry the torch for the Celtics in the years ahead.

When Much Become Too Much in Sports

June 5, 2010

If you mention sports, many things will surely sprout out from your mind like mushrooms. The word sports is synonymous to the different games passionately played by people of all ages regardless of sex, race and status in life. Moreover, playing a certain sports is one of the best activity one can engaged in for it fosters good health, great attributes (sportsmanship, discipline, patience and the likes) and can be a form of wholesome entertainment where your friends, relatives and your entire family can enjoy and indulge in.

Various sports that are played in the Olympics like the medal rich aquatics (swimming, diving, water polo), waters sports (sailing, rowing, and canoeing and kayaking), combat sports like (karate, taekwondo, judo, wrestling and boxing), ballgames (basketball, football, volleyball, and softball), target sports (archery, and shooting), racket events (table tennis, tennis and badminton), gymnastics (rhythmic, artistic and trampoline), athletics, weightlifting, field hockey, triathlon, pentathlon and field hockey. Golf and rugby will be included in the 2016 edition of the Olympics.

The following are played as a demonstration sports such as air sports, bandy, baseball, billiards and snookers, boules, bowling, bridge, chess, cricket, dance sport, floorball, karate, korfball, lifesaving, mracing, mountaineering and climbing, netball, orienteering, pelota vasca, powerboating, racquetball, roller sports, softball, squash, sumo, surfing, tug of war, underwater sports, water ski and wushu.

There are many more forms of sports played in the four corners of the world and not to mention the ones included on the winter Olympics.

Yeah there are indeed a lot of good benefits that sports can bring to the humanity but sometimes the sports might breed undesired or bad effects to the people.

Here are the bad things associated with sports may bring:

  • Cheating in sports – Cheating in sports is rampant and often the culprit are the hosts of such sporting events or tournaments. Howls of massive hometown decisions can be seen unraveling in boxing, in the South East Asian Games, and even in the Olympics (remember the South Koreans getting a lion’s share of the gold medals at stake in the sports of boxing). Sports betting, and horrible refereeing and points shaving (scrupulous referee and the athletes) is done under the table and often they are left unnoticed.
  • Doping – Used of performance enhancing drugs or steroids also serves as the menace in any sporting events. Disgraced athletics superstars and Olympic winners Marion Jones and Ben Johnson give the sports a shot in the arm. Cyclists, swimmers, weightlifters, boxers, cagers, baseball players and many more athletes used this dreaded drugs to gain a cutting edge during their training and in an actual competition. But then the advancement in Science will reveal their scheme and their cheating ways as a doping test will just be like a final nail on the coffin of their illustrious careers.
  • Greed – The root of evil is money as the scriptures says and sports is not also spared from this. Many people are so addicted with sports that many would resort to sports betting and gambling is proven to be one of the worse addictions in the world. The legendary Pete Rose of baseball haven’t progressed yet of becoming a Hall of Famer in the sports since he was involved in a sports betting. Many people lives were devastated because of sports gambling.
  • The people with weak personality whilst engaging with combat sports oftentimes becomes violent and would seek troubles which are opposite with the principles taught by the sports.
  • Fanaticism and hooliganism – There is a big difference between an avid fan and a troublemaker. An avid fan can be patriotic and would give morale support to his favorite teams or players, but hooligans are not truly fans of the sports but rather the low profile people with low life and stirring and making troubles are their craps. Hooliganism is very popular in the football and this is making some dent to a sport that is being loved by the majority of people in the world.

These are just some of the things that are considered a chink on the armor of sports. It is true that sports can be beneficial but when people intervenes to used it to his advantage because of his bad motives expect worse things to happen.

The next issue deals with the other side of the coin, that is the goodwill the sports fosters.

June 3, 2010

The last Spanish pride standing in the Madrid Open leaned on his mastery of the clay court to repulsed defending champion and world number 1 Roger Federer of Switzerland in the finals.

A losing finalist the last time around, Nadal finally wins his second title in the tournament, and now ahead of the legendary Andre Agassi of the United States of America in terms of numbers of Masters triumphs.

Nadal thus solidified his stronghold of the World Number 2 position in the ATP rankings and aching to overtake Federer.

Nadal’s fiery form on clay is apparent as he already posted a clean 15-0, win loss slate on the surface this year including his win over Federer.

Nadal triumphed in Monte Carlo and Rome, and just surrendered two sets at that stretch.
