Seasoned NBA Players Duncan, Nash and Iverson Nail All Star Spots
Allen Iverson who almost skipped the entire season provided the biggest turnaround in the NBA this season and even voted to start in the NBA All Star Game next month in the NBA All Star Game next month in Dallas, whilst prolific point guard Steve Nash and formidable center Tim Duncan made it to starting spots as well.
Nash the spitfirish guard of the Phoenix Suns overcame the injured Tracy McGrady for the second guard for the Western Conference, while Duncan mount a big rally in the recent balloting to overshadow Dirk Nowitzki for the forward spot sending Dallas Mavericks fans into disappointments as they will not see their hero as one of the starters in their own turf.
Lebron James, the leading vote-getter for the All-Star Game, became the first player to obtain at least 2.5 million votes three times. James is slated to appear in the All Star game for the sixth time as a starter.
“The fans still love and see what I do every night, and they appreciate it, and I appreciate them for electing me as an All Star starter,” James said.
Surrounding James and Iverson as Eastern Conference starters are the feisty Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade, the behemoth center Dwight Howard of Orlando Magic and beanpole yet equally impressive Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett.
While playing alongside Duncan is Kobe Bryant the electrifying Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, Phoenix Suns center Amare Stoudemire and Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony.
Starters for the All Star games are reckoned by the balloting at NBA arenas where the votes casted are counted electronically. The reserves on the other hand will be chosen by the nods of the head coaches in each of the Conference.
Playing only 19 games this season, perhaps his worst season of his career the fans are still bewildered by his exciting and high-octane game.
Iverson who is hampered by a sore knee said he might skip his 10th All Star Game if he is not okay. Iverson is on his 11th All Star, but didn’t play in the 2007 edition because of an injury.
McGrady who only played six games for the Houston Rockets was overtaken in the last day of balloting by Nash and Chris Paul of New Orleans in the final days of the voting. The voting received criticisms especially when the sidelined McGrady was running a strong second in the January 7 balloting.
Duncan’s appearance on All Star will be his 12th, same numbers posted by Bryant who was named the co-winner of the All-Star Game MVP together with his former teammate Shaquille O’Neal of Phoenix Suns. Boston’s Garnett will be playing for his 13th only two shy of O’neal’s 15th among active players. More than 80,000 spectators (projected to be the largest ever to watch a live basketball game) are expected to troop into the Cowboy’s Stadium to witness the game.
