Women’s Boxing in Asian Games and Olympics
It’s final the women’s boxing is included at the Asian Games that will be staged in Guangzhou this coming November and the 2012 London Olympics.
Three gold medals in three different divisions is to be disputed in both the Asiad and the Olympics. The three divisions to be included in the Asian Games and the Olympics calendar includes: the flyweight (45-51 kgs.), lightweight (51-60 kgs.) and middleweight (61-75 kgs.). The AIBA (Association Internationale de Boxe) female executive committee member, said, the Asian countries will certainly be a force to reckon with in the medals race in London Olympics. At the fifth World Women’s Boxing Championship held two years ago four Asian countries made it to the elusive top ten by virtue of their strong showing in the event.
China finished first, India wound up fourth, Japan checked in fifth and the Philippines was tied for the tenth place.
The Philippines boasts of a lone silver and two bronzes in this strong event. In London, a total of 12 slots is up for grab for each of the weight categories in the women’s boxing event.
