Here are the highlights of the 2010 Soccer World Cup
The 2010 edition of the Soccer World Cup saw a lot of resounding upsets and departure of some of the favored teams throughout the tournament. France, Italy and Serbia were booted out as early as the qualifying stages. Portugal and England were eliminated in the second round by Spain and Germany. Argentina and top-seeded Brazil fell ambush to the Netherlands and Germany. Alas, in the semifinals, previous winners of the World Cup were formally wiped out as Uruguay bowed to giant killer the Netherlands and Spain wielding the upset axe against Germany.

The Seer from Oberhausen, which is actually an octopus named Paul, and hmmm not a human so as to speak gained global prominence by predicting accurately the winner between Germany and Spain in the semifinals. The poor octopus was the center of ire of the exasperated and angered German soccer fans and aficionados. The Germans wanted the sea creature be placed in a tank that contains sharks rofl. The octopus went on to predict the wins of Germany on its battle for third against the 1930 and 1950 champions Uruguay and the title conquest of Spain in the World Cup over shocked the Netherlands. The octopus thus raised its success rate to 12 correct predictions against one foiled prediction.

Australia Leans on Jack Warner on its Bid for FIFA World Cup Host in 2018 or 2022

Jack Warner, one of the most influential people behind FIFA, is  supporting Australia bid to host the FIFA World Cup in 2018 or 2012.
Warner, who has lashed out England’s World Cup bid in for the past few weeks, dispatched concerns that Australia have weak hosting bid and considered as a far away contender.
Australia being allegedly ‘far away’ is a bit of a ridiculous statement,” stated the FIFA executive committee member on the Football Federation Australia website. “God created the world round for a reason: distance is relative to where you stand.
And the Australian continent is nearer to two-thirds of the world’s population than most other places. So what’s the fuss?”
Australia is one of the nine bidders for 2018, and one of 11 in the race for 2022, the decision for both will be determined by December 2010.
Warner made several visits to Australia as he quipped, “Australia created the best ever Olympics and demonstrated an ability to host and manage some of the biggest sporting events in the world with class, expertise and with a dedication to excellence.”
“If there is a country that truly deserves to host the FIFA World Cup, then it is the island continent of Australia…Warner also cited Australia’s two straight FIFA World Cup appearances. “Just look how Australia has fared in football over the years, and now, even your neighbour, New Zealand, have qualified. What a fantastic achievement,” the elated influential Warner said.
Football Federation Australia chairman Frank Lowy is expecting to win on its country’s bid on 2018, and if not however 2022 will be a great second price. South Africa is the host of next year’s World Cup with powerhouse Brazil staging the the 2014 event.
