Wesley So Opens Corus Bid Against Naiditsch
Wijk Aan Zee, Netherlands – Super grandmaster Wesley So of the Philippines open its bid in the 2010 Corus International Chess Championships at the de Moriaan Community Center Saturday when he faces top seed GM Arkadij Naiditsch of Germany in the first round.
Naiditsch which is born in Latvia carries an ELO rating of 2689. After topping Group C section last year by posting an impressive score of 9.5 points, from seven wins, five draws and only one loss, is making his first appearance in the Category 16 Group Section which is a tough field as it boasts a remarkable average rating of ELO 2627.

Seeded only sixth in the firld of 14 players, So is one of the favorites in the tournament after registering an high-octane performance in the recent World Chess Cup where he managed to squeaked to fourth round with victories over World Championship Candidates GMs Vassily Ivanchuk of Ukraine and Gata Kamsky of the US.
So will be facing opponents like GM Erwin l’Ami of the Netherlands, GM Varuzhan Akobian of US, GM Parimarjan Negi of India, Pentala Harikrishna of India, second-seed GM Liviu-Dieter Nissepeanu of Romania, GM Dmitri Reinderman of the Netherlands, GM Ni Hua of China, GM Emil Sutovsky of Israel, GM Tomi Nyback of Finland, GM David Howell of England, Anush Giri of Netherlands and IM Muzychuck of Slovenia.
